Absolutely Irresponsible, Insensitive.

Absolutely horrendous experience, This is a long due review, We moved last august from San Francisco Bay Area to Bangalore, India. The guy who comes to estimate the cu.ft of stuff you have does not even spend a minute doing a good job, he horribly underestimated the cu.ft our stuff will take, our quotes an everything else after that were based on his incorrect estimation. On the day of the move, I had blocked off an entire side curb at my place in San Francisco with my car to accommodate their truck, they showed up late, had major confusion. Four guys showed up however instead of starting on the packing and moving right away, two of them wanted to take off with the truck right away. I explained how hard it is to find parking here, but they could not care less, they unloaded packing materials in such a rush and drove off rudely. The two guys left had no one to supervise or help to support, and took their own sweet time to pack everything. They did not seem professional and at many instances I had to personally supervise and direct packing. After about 2 hours another one showed up, and within 10 mins - said they will head out for lunch and come back. All in all a really insensitive behavior to customers time on the day of packing. Guess what, as they packed all the stuff took it their warehouse to palletize and weigh, they call us back and mention that the actual is 150% of the estimate they provided, and therefore will be an additional $2000, at this point we do not have a choice, we had to go by what they had to mention. Really ridiculous, utter rip off. They charged us $200 each for two TV boxes on top of all that. I can understand an estimate off by 10% or 20%; 55% above an estimate, and we have actually been selling things off in the time between the estimate and the actual day of packing. Horrendous! Our stuff lands in Bangalore after three months, guess what every single furniture we have has a chip or dent or damage. Just cannot use them or keep them in the living room with all the damage. Further, Porcelain cups broken atleast a dozen, collectibles cracked or chipped, except the two TV's and my music system every other furniture suffered damage. I actually have pictures to prove this, their insurance after all the hassle of putting in a claim, paid us $88. Honestly guys, I have moved plenty cross-continents, you are the most unprofessional and careless movers I have ever met. The WORST: They missed an entire box of my electronics, this had my TV power cords, my Home theatre power cords, atleast 6 hdmi cables, $200 universal remote, wireless keyboards, RF toys, my Roku player and a whole bunch of other things. Now, I had two TV's at my place in Bangalore, both run on 120V and no power cords, I cannot even buy them outside in India as India is on 220V cords.Ridiculous, its been several months, and I am waiting for some friend of mine to visit India to actually bring me spare cords that I can ship from the US. Their response, Do not know what happened. We discovered this more than 45 days after our stuff landed and therefore Insurance will not cover it, let alone that - we had electronic equipment for which we had paid customs for the transfer that we could not use. UNPROFESSIONAL, CARELESS, CHEATING, RIP OFFS!, INSENSITIVE, ARROGANT is the way they behaved. I Would really recommend you think hard before engaging them for anything.

Official company response

Hi Amit Bakane,

We are sorry that you were unhappy with the sales experience. We quoted you the best rates we could offer, but it seems you were unhappy that we were not able to offer the rates you were expecting and so you chose not to move with us.

We completely understand your decision and am also sorry that we could not win your business.

Since reading your review, we have reviewed all email communication and phone logs and we see that our responses and quotations were timely and professional.

We are sorry if our inability to give you the rates you were expecting came across as rude or otherwise. That was certainly not our intent.

We wish you well with your international move and hope to be serve you in the future.

Never ever use their horrible service.

Never ever use their service.
UniRelo, You guys sucks, the moving service is the worst I have ever seen.
My move scheduled on July 22nd started on 1pm. And on July 22nd morning, the mover call me said I must start moving on 8am, and I must follow his schedule. What the *
I was not at the location until 12pm that is why I need schedule to move at 1pm.
I contacted Ben Smith, and the mover then said it would be fine to start on 12 pm. Then I wait until 12:20, there is no one shows up. I called mover (some guy name Steve), and he said he cannot find his helper.
I called their supervisor (Lovelace) that guy was so rude and told me he will cancel the movement. You guys never honor your own business.
I have attached the screen shot of the message communication.

Also I still be charged for the $150 even you guys did not provide any service and run away in the last minute.

0 star company.

If you are planning to move to India beware of this company. 3 pieces of our furniture was delivered broken. When tried to make a insurance claim it was denied. There was non sense reason for denying the claim. The claims personal is rude and the team does not communicate among themselves.
When the movers came to deliver our goods they were in a rush and didn't open all the furniture. 3 to 4 boxes are missing probably stolen. The insurance they offered was fraud.
Buyers beware.

Glad its over. Heed our experience!

What is the minimum standard expectation to have from a company that ships your stuff across the world?

If the expectation is just that they pick up what you give them from an address you give them and deliver it to the address you give them, then UniRelo meets those expectations. What we didn't realize is that UniRelo does a great job of only promising this while making it look like they do a lot more.

On the surface UniRelo looks like a cheaper alternative to more "branded" shippers, but they end up costing the same and will cause you anguish for long periods of time with half promises. Here's our recent moving experience in detail:

Moved from Pittsburgh, PA to Delhi, India.

The estimate provided put the total cost at $1347 for 100cu.ft + $8.50 per additional cu.ft (which for our 224 cu.ft + 30% for paletization should have come to around $2900), but we ultimately ended up paying close to $4.2K for the whole shipment. The percentage for paletization is estimated to be 30% (see snapshot from quote). We were ultimately invoiced for 70% greater volume. Our total volume of shipment (non-paletized) was 224 cu.ft. We got billed for 382 cu.ft. When asked about this, we were told that they were helping us by making sure our stuff was handled properly.

We chose to pack the boxes and everything ourselves, Unirelo gave us a time when they would pick up our stuff. On the day, 1 man (the driver) showed up with incorrect information about how many boxes he had to pick up. Following some coordination initiated and largely facilitated by us, we were able to get him to pick up all the pieces of shipment. In addition, we had to facilitate the moving of everything from our house to the truck ourselves as there was only the driver who showed up at the end of the day with no equipment (like a dolly or cart).

We raised major concerns about the way our shipment was being handled. It was in response to our complaint about the way the TV was loaded and boxes precariously placed that they said they packed everything in 2 wooden crates in addition to paletization!?. Felt like they were punishing us (which raised the palettized volume to 70% greater) for raising concern about how they handled our stuff.

Several follow ups were needed to get any documentation from them that looked acceptable. We were handed an empty document with no mention of what was picked up, instead they asked me how many pieces of shipment there are and wrote that number on the document and gave it to me. Eventually the driver got pissed off with everything, the people on the phone seemed to be getting angry with me for demanding that they at least give me a receipt for what was picked up!!? Following our past experience with moving countries, there is a formal process of identifying, tagging and noting down every box and item along with detail about what is inside them. Then a document is provided to us by the movers listing everything with a signature at the bottom.

To get the Bill of Lading and Invoice, it required several follow ups.

In addition, we were invoiced for custom and duty charges of 29K INR, apparently by the Indian Government. UniRelo has still not provided us with the bill or receipt from the government for this amount, despite us asking for this several times. They insisted that we pay the amount first before they can provide the receipt - our stuff could not be released without the money apparently. :(

We should note in all fairness that the India experience was smooth, the stuff arrived early and was offloaded by two guys efficiently and in a timely manner with little fuss.

In summary, if you should use UniRelo, pray that you are one of the lucky ones who is treated well by them. We read reviews before we used them, there was little sign of this happening, the allure was the price. If you do insist on going with UniRelo, have them pack your stuff, do not go for the all or nothing insurance plan.

Best of Luck.

Excellent service both in USA and India.

I shipped a 20 feet container with UniRelo from San Jose to Bangalore. They quoted me a good rate and backed it up with excellent services. Their agents in India also were very professional and prompt in service. They even helped me negotiate my customs duty down. I am very happy with the services of UniRelo and I will definitely recommend them to anybody moving back to India.

This company should not be in Budiness.

Their sales person , Richard is the most unprofessional person I have come across .
He cannot even get the move dates right after 3 telephone conversations and 3 text messages . All this " person" ( I have seen most animals have more decorum ) was interested in was to get the $150 deposit .. This is an extract of texts exchanged ..
ME :
Richard .. Delivery window will be between August 17 and 30 th .. Pse amend .

Richard :
Bella honestly it's fine that gives us a two-week delivery window at the end of August. However even if we picked up August 17th you will incur a $95 charge for one month of storage. We want your business however our system is set that final reservations are made after receiving the deposit I am happy to make the correction to the delivery window upon your reservation. Just to let you know according to our dispatch a delivery window like yours could not be any sweeter. I look I look for your response
ME :
My daughter just called me .. Absolutely furious . I told you at least a dozen times that the move must be scheduled for July 31 or a few days earlier if you deem it necessary . I told her that the dates were corrected and to my utter dismay noticed a move date or Jun 30!
Her ? was " if he cannot get the move dates right , do you think this is a reputable company " . Unfortunately , I have to agree with her!

Richard
I wrote what you said sir if there wasn't going to be any confusion you should have wrote it just my opinion however but you're the customer so you must always be right take care I could care less about the movie The Cleaner company

Very Good Service.

I would like to thank the entire team of Universal Re Locations from bottom of my heart for shipping my packages without any damages from Minneapolis, USA to India.

The entire team has done an amazing job in collecting the packages from my place at Minneapolis and delivering it at Bangalore. I was amazed at the excellent processes that they have of proactively informing and guiding the customer at each phase. As a result, I felt it was a cake walk for me to get the packages shipped from US to India, even though it would have been a daunting task for all of them.

Khushali, had been very helpful throughout the entire process. She guided me on what materials to buy for packing, how to do the packing and explained me the entire process of picking the packages at my door step (in Minneapolis) to delivering it at the destination.

Had a wonderful experience with their services, so I would highly recommend them for your shipping moves.

Last but not the least. Following their instructions carefully around packing your fragile items or take their help. Take adequate insurance and don't hesitate to call them for any clarifications throughout the entire process.
